Skidmore to host NASA-funded summer research program

Skidmore College is the first liberal arts college to host a NASA-sponsored summer program that allows researchers from across the world to use NASA imaging tools and other resources to address pressing environmental and policy issues on Earth.

Dining Services

‘The Office’- themed dinner

Stop by Murray-Aikins Dining Hall for an ‘Office’-themed dinner based on the popular TV show from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8. Costume prizes, raffles, and giveaways will be available.

 

Reducing waste at The Spa

As part of efforts to make Skidmore a single-use, plastic-free campus, dine-in plates are now the default option for all meals at The Spa. Those who would like to take their meals to go can opt to enroll in the Reusemore reusable container program or pay $0.25 for a single-use to-go container.

Dailey Innovations Presents: ‘Addressing Microbehaviors’

This virtual workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, explores how microbehaviors can lead to a climate of mistrust and exclusion that negatively impacts performance. Register online.

StartUp Skidmore

Helena Yohannes ’04, co-founder of 2.4.1 Cosmetics, will provide a keynote address at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, in Gannett Auditorium. The campus community is invited to attend the keynote and hear about her entrepreneurship journey.

Title IX tabling

Title IX staff and members of the Advisory Council for Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct will be tabling every other Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. on the second floor of Case Center starting Wednesday, Feb 15. Camp Northwoods registration opens Feb. 9

Student Leadership Award nominations sought

The Skidmore community is invited to nominate students who have made outstanding contributions to the community through their involvement, service, and leadership development activities for several Student Leadership Awards. The deadline is 4 p.m. on Monday, March 20.

 

Ensemble Connect returns to Skidmore

Ensemble Connect is celebrating its 16th year at Skidmore. A spring 2023 Skidmore residency runs through Feb. 18. It will culminate in a performance in Arthur Zankel Music Center at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17. Tickets are $5 for Skidmore students, faculty, and staff; to purchase, visit the Zankel website.

 

SWOP lunch and workshop

Join Sustainability Office staff from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, on the second floor of Murray-Aikins Dining Hall, rooms 1 and 2, for a catered lunch and workplace sustainability workshop to discuss the Sustainable Workplace Operations Program (SWOP). Summer Student Housing

Summer Housing Application opens April 1 and closes on May 5. Summer housing is available to students participating in summer classes, summer collaborative research, internships, independent study, or on-campus employment.

COVID-19 Reminders

Community members are encouraged to review a Jan. 25 email that includes current COVID-19 guidance and information. As a reminder, students may continue to pick up free rapid tests at Case Information Desk or at Campus Safety. Employees are reminded that additional free rapid tests are available through www.covid.gov/tests, and that MVP covers the costs of rapid tests. Students and employees must notify the College if they test positive for COVID-19. Updates continue to be posted to Skidmore’s Campus Planning website and Skidmore’s COVID-19 Dashboard.

Ash Wednesday observances at Skidmore

Drop-in hours for Ash Wednesday on Feb. 22 will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Case Center, second floor. An ecumenical service will be held at 6 p.m. in Wilson Chapel. All are welcome. Contact Parker Diggory for more information.

 

Exploremore: Majors and minors for first- and second-year students

Students are encouraged to take advantage of Exploremore, an opportunity to talk to professors and upper-class students about what it means to major or minor in a specific discipline and how to make the most of your academic career, from Monday, Feb. 20, through Friday, March 3. Learn about upcoming classes, internship opportunities, study abroad, research opportunities, and more.

 

Sign up for departmental composting pilot program

The Sustainability Office’s student compost managers are seeking department liaisons to register a compost bin site and be a point of contact. Managers will set up a compost station and will empty bins weekly. Register online or email the compost managers for more information.

 

Office of Student Diversity Programs spring mixer

Join the Office of Student Diversity Programs for food, refreshments, and an opportunity to meet faculty, students, and staff from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday Feb. 16, in Case 207 (Campus Life and Engagement suite).

 

American Sign Language Workshops at the Tang

In conjunction with the upcoming exhibition “Christine Sun Kim: Oh Me Oh My,” the Tang is offering introductory workshops on deaf history and culture, American Sign Language, and basic ASL vocabulary and grammar taught by certified ASL instructor Colette Steves. Registration is required. Classes are at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 27, March 20, and April 17.

 

Asana through Art: Yoga at the Tang

The Tang invites the Skidmore community to a series of art-inspired yoga sessions. Asana through Art: Yoga at the Tang are free, beginner-friendly yoga classes open to faculty, students, and staff at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, and Tuesday, April 11. 2023 Make Your Voice Heard Skidmore Public Policy Prize

Students are encouraged to apply to the 2023 Make Your Voice Heard Skidmore Public Policy Prize competition, an opportunity to engage with a public policy issue that is important to them. Full applications must be submitted by email to Marla Melito by 5 p.m. Friday, April 14. First prize is $1,000; two runners-up will each receive $500.

Athletics News

The Big Green Scream returns

The Big Green Scream returns to the Williamson Sports Center on Saturday,when the women’s and men’s basketball teams host Clarkson University in their final regular-season games. The women’s contest tips at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m. The first 250 fans at each game will receive a free T-shirt. There will be prizes awarded during both games, and a grand prize basket full of gift certificates will be given away at halftime of the men’s game. It will also be senior day for both teams as they get ready for their upcoming Liberty League tournaments. The women will host a semifinal game on Feb. 24, while the men will know their information after this weekend. Learn more on the Skidmore Athletics website.
